Birdlife set to return to Scott Street this spring

Scott Street, a bustling activity centre, retail and social hub lovingly referred to as “The Bird Cage”, will soon showcase inspiring new designs on roller doors of six businesses as part of a placemaking activation program.

In conjunction with other shopfront improvement measures this will bring tangible benefits to our local traders and increase local visitation by improving the image and presentation of the area.

The project is made possible through a co-funding agreement between the Victorian Government, as part of the Suburban Revitalisation Program, and Melton City Council.

Following consultation with local businesses and the community, Council engaged retail specialist Ching Ching Lee from Pop Creative Collective to develop a design treatment to enhance and connect six roller doors of local businesses.

The design theme pays tribute to the area’s rich natural history and its proximity to a bird sanctuary that was built nearby in the 1930s.

It is also a nod to the area’s nickname, ‘The Bird Cage’, while encompassing a broader theme highlighting community connectedness, diversity and local pride as shared common ground.

In conjunction with outdoor dining installations and new shopfront signage, which are also funded as part of this project, these improvements will bring tangible benefits to our local traders and support future economic uplift and reactivation of the area.

Once the project is complete the Economic Development team will plan a launch event for the precinct, so be sure to follow us for updates as works commence in the weeks ahead.
