Land acquired for new Melton Hospital

There’s been a great step forward in one of our most significant community campaigns, with the announcement that the land at 245-267 Ferris Road, Cobblebank has been formally acquired for the new Melton Hospital.

The acquisition process was finalised on 9 December and on the 17 December 2021 the Victorian Government took physical possession of the land.

The transfer of ownership was formalised via a Notice of Acquisition published in the Victoria Government Gazette on 9 December, and this will be followed by registration of the plan of subdivision which will record the change of ownership at the land registry. The transfer of ownership is an administrative step and the Minister for Health is the legal owner of the land.

The City of Melton is currently working to certify the plan of subdivision.

The site at Cobblebank was selected following an extensive planning process between the State Government and Melton City Council.

When exploring potential sites, the a range of factors were considered, including accessibility, expansion opportunities and how the hospital will link in to services at other public hospitals in the western region, including the new Footscray Hospital.

Over 2000 residents also had their say via an online survey. Participants indicated they wanted a hospital close to public transport and one that could expand as the population grows.

The site is located within the future Cobblebank Metropolitan Activity Centre, just 500m from the Cobblebank train station, close to community and sports and recreation facilities, and with good access along the Western Freeway.
