State-of-the-art Cobblebank Indoor Stadium complete!

The state-of-the-art Cobblebank Indoor Stadium is now complete, with basketball games contested on the courts for the first time over the weekend.

The $31 million stadium is Melton City Council’s highest value project to date and began construction in March 2020.

The opening is a key step forward in the development of the 100-hectare Cobblebank Metropolitan Activity Centre, following on from the opening of  the multimillion-dollar Cobblebank Village Shopping Centre in May, and the announcement Ferris Road Cobblebank as the site for the new Melton Hospital in July.

Over the next decade, the Cobblebank Metropolitan Activity Centre is expected to become one of the largest activity centres in greater Melbourne.

The six-court stadium is a multi-purpose community facility catering to sports including basketball, netball, badminton, table tennis, and volleyball, as well as school and community health and wellness programs.

As one of Council’s most sustainable buildings yet, Cobblebank Stadium has been designed to maximise natural light, minimise energy consumption, use environmentally sustainable materials, and will be powered by a 100 per cent renewable energy supply.

City of Melton Mayor Cr Goran Kesic said it was an exciting milestone to see the stadium complete.

“Cobblebank Indoor Stadium is open! It’s a very exciting moment for our sporting community and for Council to see this spectacular facility complete,” Cr Kesic said.

“It’s a fantastic feeling knowing that community groups and sporting clubs are going to bring a hive of activity to this outstanding space.

“Demand for sporting facilities is growing and we’re proud to support our active community in their sporting endeavours.

“This is our highest value project ever and I’m so pleased to celebrate its completion with our community.”

A community open day will be held early next year, giving the wider community an opportunity to celebrate the stadium and take a closer look inside. Details will be shared closer to the date.
