Member Spotlight: Meet Javier Avilés - Founder & Digital Strategist of Waypoint Digital
For Javier Avilés, the story of Waypoint Digital began in Caroline Springs in 2017. Javier’s first "office" was his home, and his first client came through Airtasker—a fitness equipment retailer and online shop. In a world where business relationships can often feel temporary, that very first client is still with Javier today, nearly a decade later. It’s a testament to the philosophy Javier has built his life around: trust, loyalty and staying local.
Waypoint Digital specialises in SEO, AI Search, website design and development, with a strong focus on helping local small businesses in Melbourne’s western suburbs get found online and grow.
Having lived and worked in the western suburbs for years, Javier understands the unique grit of the local business community. His diverse clientele ranges from tradies and restaurants to law firms, medical clinics and professional services.
"I wanted to build something different," Javier says.
"An agency that feels like a genuine partner, not just a vendor. Caroline Springs is where my heart is, and I wanted to make sure our local businesses weren't being left behind."
Javier’s connection to the City of Melton goes beyond just providing a service. He is currently delivering an initiative called the 20for26 project. His goal? To build 20 professional websites for local small businesses this year — specifically for those who might not have the budget but have the drive to grow.
Javier credits his success to an early mentor who taught him one vital lesson: stay current. Today, that means navigating the world of AI and "Generative Engine Optimisation." While the tech sounds complex, Javier’s goal is simple: making sure that when someone asks for an AI tool like ChatGPT for a local service, it’s a City of Melton business that gets recommended.
“The way people search is changing fast,” Javier says.
“I want to make sure our local neighbours are the ones leading that change, not trailing behind it.”
Despite the high-tech nature of SEO and web design, Javier is the first to admit that his business runs on old-fashioned word-of-mouth. He remains inspired by the resilience of the local business owners he meets every day and remains committed to being a familiar face in a complex industry.
