Member Spotlight: ThinkerLab - Inspiring the Next Generation of Problem Solvers

Founded in the City of Melton, ThinkerLab helps children aged 7–12 build confidence and future-ready skills through hands-on robotics and coding programs. Created by Caroline Springs local Kinjal Parikh, the initiative supports more than 150 children across local libraries and community spaces, inspiring the next generation of problem solvers

‍ThinkerLab is a locally founded initiative helping children across the City of Melton develop essential future-ready skills through hands-on robotics and coding programs. Led by Tech Lead and Founder Kinjal Parikh, a Caroline Springs-based mum and business owner, the program was created to better prepare children for a rapidly changing world.

The idea began at home, driven by a desire to equip children with meaningful, real-life skills. Recognising that many children engage with technology passively, Kinjal set out to create a program that encourages active learning, problem-solving and critical thinking. ThinkerLab now delivers programs for children aged 7–12 across libraries, neighbourhood houses and community spaces, supporting more than 150 local participants.

With a background in complementary medicine, yoga and over 15 years in the corporate sector, she brings a holistic perspective to learning. Her approach was shaped by her own child’s experience, where hands-on robotics sparked curiosity, improved confidence and strengthened problem-solving skills — reinforcing the value of learning through doing.

One of the key challenges has been raising awareness, with many parents still viewing coding as screen-based or suited only to technical learners. ThinkerLab works to shift this perception, highlighting the broader benefits of building confidence, creativity and resilience. Balancing business growth while remaining actively involved in program delivery has also been an ongoing focus.

A standout outcome has been the rapid growth in children’s confidence. Many begin hesitant but quickly develop the ability to approach challenges with patience, persistence and a more strategic mindset.

Looking ahead, ThinkerLab will continue to deliver school holiday workshops and launch new term programs at Caroline Springs Library, alongside expanding partnerships with schools and care providers. The long-term vision is to create a complete learning pathway that supports not just technical skills, but how children think, learn and adapt.
