Varcon Group’s 45 year family legacy

Varcon Group’s Managing Director, Michael Ahmet says he “grew up in a wheelbarrow”, playing in brick sand and watching his dad working on construction sites.

As the son of the founder, Michael is determined to continue the family-owned and operated construction company’s 45 year legacy, expanding the business to design and deliver exceptional homes, buildings and developments across Victoria.

Growing up around the family business, Michael built his first home at the age of 16.

He says that at an age when most kids were out acting like typical teenagers, Michael was on construction sites.

“This motivated me to finally get my own wheelbarrow, build homes, and put a roof over people’s heads,” he says.

It seems in the Ahmet family, the apple never falls far from the tree, and now Michael’s daughters are involved in running the business.

“One of my biggest motivations was when Varcon Group became a third-generation business,” Michael says.

His renewed drive and passion for the business was reflected company-wide as the company staff grew from four to a team of 25.

Varcon is also motivated by the power to create local communities, places where families and and businesses can thrive; places to call home.

One of the company’s largest developments to date is in Caroline Springs.

Vescada Place, Caroline Springs

Vescada Place consists of 68 apartments, providing permanent or temporary residence for over 100 people, along with commercial retail spaces for small businesses.

Conceptually Vescada Place was designed to provide a seamless fit for life, work and relaxation for its residents.

Envisioned as a hub for the local community, the complex aims to bring the best of life in Caroline Springs to its doorstep: retail, cafes, gyms and, of course, the iconic Lake Caroline.

Michael says while much passion and commitment has gone into building Varcon Group’s reputation, it’s the positive feedback and encouragement the team receives each day from government organisations, local councils, homeowners and the community that keeps the team motivated.
