Ginger Club Indian Restaurant

Rajesh Wahi had always been a keen hospitality Industry aspirant, follower and innovator.

“My grandfather had the greatest influence on me from childhood, as he was a successful restauranteur back in the day,” Rajesh says.

“This ingrained a clear aspirational career goal.”

Rajesh studied Hospitality Management back home in India and secured a job in a reputable five-star hotel.

He says this was a great boost for his career, as he was able to obtain first-hand experience in various fields of hospitality such as speciality restaurants, functions, banquets, room service, housekeeping and front of house.

He has since updated his qualifications, as required to successfully operate and manage his business in New Zealand, and later in Australia.

Upon moving to Melbourne, Rajesh opened his first restaurant on Lygon Street in 1998, the first Indian restaurant in Carlton.

Since then, he says, he has been extremely fortunate to operate eight successful restaurants. Melton’s Ginger Club is his lucky ninth.

“Melton was the obvious choice as the demographics were rapidly evolving and the community was growing at an enormous speed,” Rajesh says.

“So when I got the invitation from Woodgrove shopping centre, it was a no brainer.”

Rajesh says that every business comes with its own set of challenges in getting started and then staying afloat, although with his experience in the field he was able to grow his business quite quickly.

However his biggest challenge has been operating during the pandemic.

“I had absolutely no exposure or expertise in this field,” he says.

“But the team has been able to devise an effective mechanism to overcome this challenge by keeping their communications channels open and by adhering to Government directives.

“The restaurant has subsequently introduced an outdoor dining area in the front, to cater for patrons who wish to dine outdoors when the Government Restriction ease.”

Ginger Club has been serving customers in Melton since 2014 and will continue to provide tasty fresh meals and friendly, professional service in a comfortable ambience.

Rajesh says that the restaurant has a very special surprise unfolding in the next few weeks, so keep up to date by liking their Facebook page
