Priya Indian Cuisine, Caroline Springs

The Priya Indian Cuisine team strives to create an environment which gives customers a taste of India, without having to leave Melbourne.

A family-run business, led by Bali and Anu Sharma, Priya has succeeded in capturing the attention of western suburbs diners, as well as those who travel from all over Melbourne to enjoy their fresh and authentic cuisine.

The Priya name started in Sydenham back in 2004 and after tasting early success, Bali and Anu began the search for a second location to expand their business.

Their main objective was to find an area that offered growth, exposure, a sense of community and a large demographic. This search led them to not only a second location but also a third, with stores opening in Caroline Springs and Point Cook.

Bali Sharma says the Priya team prides itself on providing an opulent décor to match their cuisine, which allows clients to feel like royalty.

“The furnishings at the Caroline Springs store are curated from South India, and took three years to design. It is a one of a kind restaurant in Australia.”

But he says, India’s greatest work of art is its cuisine.

At Priya they preserve this tradition and share it whenever they can.

The menu at Priya also fully caters for those who are vegetarian and vegan and have allergies and intolerances.

After being in the business for more than 20 years, Bali and Anu’s aim is still to recreate the cuisine of India, and to bring that to the residents of Melbourne.

“Our culture states that the hospitality we offer guests is a reflection of our family, homes and our values,” Bali says.

Priya has become a household name for Indian food in the western and surrounding suburbs, and the couple now aim to take the name to the metro, eastern and southern areas of Melbourne and eventually interstate.

Bali and Anu are currently creating a model that will enable their business to expand, aiming to achieve recognition on a larger scale within the hospitality and corporate industry.

Another key element in the Priya equation is their staff. A high level of training is offered, along with reward and recognition programs.

Staff are happy to work at Priya and recognise the support of the team, Bali says.

”This is then reflected in the service provided to customers: happy staff, happier customer.”

Bali and Anu’s philosophy is simple.

“Our guest is our God and we will ensure they receive the best possible service and cuisine from the moment they step into the establishment to the moment they leave,” Bali says.

“We are an affordable luxury that doesn't judge who you are or where you are from. You will be given amazing service and amazing food regardless.”
