Member Spotlight - Melton Personal Training

Melton PT opened up 2011, where Sarah Lock had the privilege of starting her journey as a PT under the guidance of the original directors Geoff and Joe. Sarah has moved up through the business, now taking on ownership, whilst ensuring that the business has stayed true to their slogan - Beyond Training.

Offering a private and exclusive Personal Training and Small Group Fitness Studio, Melton PT provide a quality service educating our community about their health, wellness and fitness. Whilst working mainly with women, Melton PT is open to all members of the community, providing tools and resources to ensure that each person they come in contact with can live the healthiest versions of themselves.

Sarah takes pride on staying connected with community, working with Council and many other community organisations to deliver fundraisers, holiday programs, youth projects, senior projects and so much more. Currently, Melton PT are delivering a 1:1 Positive Pathways program with Bluelight Victoria and Melton Council aiming to inspire young people to make positive changes in their lives, creating opportunities that support their development, wellbeing, future success and connection to the community. Sarah is also an advocate for MND Victoria, running regular fundraisers locally, as well as trekking the Kokoda trail earlier this year.

Sarah’s pathway to personal training began shortly after the birth of her first child, where she encountered challenges with her workplace. She knew she needed to make a change, and landed in personal training. She says “I now can’t imagine doing anything else and I have been spoilt for opportunities over the years.”

From local school career talks, Special Olympics Australia at Melton Specialist School, mentoring up and coming PT’s, work experience/placement with students from local schools, speaking at Women’s health events and the Victoria Police Headquarters, plus her work with MND, Sarah takes on every opportunity that comes her way, despite having to overcome personal and professional challenges.

Sarah maintains an attitude “what can be learnt by this challenge/time in my life? What is the outcome if I ignore it or challenge it? What is the alternative to this situation? How can I use my experience to support others in similar situations? It is definitely not easy and I don’t always get it right, but I don’t believe in doing nothing, it is not part of my DNA to bury my head in the sand.

Looking ahead, expansion is on Sarah’s radar. Her goal is to create a Health and Wellness Hub, a community-based centre for holistic health and fitness with a support team that communicate between each service to decrease overwhelm. She also wants to ensure each member who is part of our Melton PT Family knows that they are fully supported without the overheads and challenges that come with services in different facilities.

Sarah is all about embracing the challenges and opportunities that come her way. “No way did I ever think I could stand up on a stage and share my knowledge and learnings to support others. No way did I realise how much impact I could have on someone who is on the road to the healthiest versions of themselves. Never did I think that I could have made so many friends and connections through business to support other local businesses and collaborate with them to service our local community.”
