Internet boost for Rockbank and Mt Cottrell businesses through NBN upgrade

Businesses in the Rockbank and Mt Cottrell areas are set to benefit from a broadband boost with the announcement of NBN upgrades for the two suburbs.

The Victorian government has announced a further five Business Fibre Zones, meaning businesses in Rockbank and Mt Cottrell will receive faster and more reliable internet, allowing direct fibre connection to business premises.

The upgrade will take place as a part of the $550 million Connecting Victoria project, which aims to provide communities with better internet connectivity through new telecommunications infrastructure.

The state government has signed a $73 million agreement with NBN Co. to improve broadband connections using more than 1000 kilometres of fibre.

The project will get more Victorian businesses access to business-grade broadband to improve and expand mobile coverage. The government said over the next two years, more than 34,000 residences and approximately 7700 businesses will be connected to the internet with speeds up to one gigabit per second, which is about 10 times faster than what is currently available.

Businesses in the area that are currently on a residential plan or would like to upgrade their commercial plan should consider taking advantage of this change as they can now secure their chosen speed tier and service, based on CBD-equivalent wholesale pricing, regardless of location.

What is Enterprise Ethernet?

Enterprise Ethernet is NBN Co’s fastest symmetrical wholesale product, meaning the upload and download speeds are mirrored.

It has a 99.95 per cent network availability uptime target designed to help optimise reliability and help reduce downtime for business.

What does this mean for businesses?

Businesses need high-speed and reliable internet whether their need is to transfer large files internally or externally, but for decades where a business was located determined how much they paid for fibre.

The Business Fibre Zones Initiative helps level the playing field by reducing the significant variation that has existed in the cost of business broadband services in suburban, regional and rural areas compared to city CBD areas. Businesses in this new Business Fibre Zone will be able to take advantage of wholesale pricing discounts of up to 68 per cent.

My business is in the new Rockbank/Mt Cottrell Business Fibre Zone. Will I be automatically connected?

NBN Enterprise Ethernet is a choice. Businesses in a Business Fibre Zone are not automatically connected to an Enterprise Ethernet service, and will need to request such a service via their preferred phone or internet provider, and be eligible to connect.

We recommend any business in a new or existing Business Fibre Zone talk to their preferred phone or internet provider about the range of business-grade products available.
