More Say on Developments
Residents in several areas across the City of Melton are set to have more say about development in their neighbourhood under a proposed change to the Melton Planning Scheme.
If adopted, Melton City Council’s Amendment C170 will remove Development Plan Overlays that were originally put in place to coordinate the appropriate use and development of vacant land in areas that are now primarily built out.
City of Melton Mayor Cr Kathy Majdlik said removing the planning controls in these more developed areas would improve transparency for existing residents and property owners.
“These planning controls have guided fair and cohesive development in these areas for a number of years and are no longer necessary in these parts of the city,” Cr Majdlik said.
“Now that these neighbourhoods are primarily built out, we want to ensure that existing residents and business owners can have their say over future planning permit applications in their area.
“Under the proposed amendment, residents or property owners will be notified and will be able to object to a proposed development that may impact them.”
The changes are proposed for thousands of parcels of land, removing the Development Plan Overlay from parts of Brookfield, Burnside, Burnside Heights, Caroline Springs, Hillside, Ravenhall, Taylors Hill and Truganina.
Council is inviting feedback to the proposed Amendment C170 from Thursday 25 February until Wednesday 7 April.
