Solar Savings for Local Business

Electricity savings were a major decision maker for David Ursic, Melton Motor Inn, when deciding to install a 30kw solar system two years ago.

Running a motel that has “electric everything”, made it an easy decision for David to invest in solar. He and wife Sue also converted their laundry from gas to electricity to continue the savings.

At the time, David looked to install the largest system that he could on the roof of the building.

“Even with leasing costs, we are miles ahead since we installed the solar,” he says.

David encourages other local businesses to look at their solar options. He suggests doing your homework and choose a business that provides you with analysis of the product and the savings that can be achieved.

While the Melton Motor Inn aren’t quite ready for a battery yet, David knows that when the cost and time is right, that will be the next step for the business.

In recognition of the success of the Solar Homes residential program, the Victorian Government is about to offer a similar rebate and loan scheme for small business in Victoria.

Solar Victoria is currently working with Business Victoria and industry bodies on the design of the program rollout. Further information on the program will be available soon, but you can register your interest at the Solar Victoria Website.
