Placemaking in a Pandemic – Part 3: Creating Places of Kindness and Belonging
As we re-open our businesses and return to our shopping precincts there is an opportunity to reflect on how we can build safety and belonging into our shared spaces to create a place where everyone feels welcome.
Melton City Council has teamed up with local artists, Alexavier Taiga and Desmond Neilson, to develop the Kindness Project, which focuses on the message:
Together, we will be kind, reach out, and get through.
Featuring bright posters that inspire community kindness, these colourful creations will be displayed at local businesses, schools and essential service providers around the municipality, and are designed to be uplifting, offer support, foster resilience and encourage community pride, so that we can all connect together as a community in a time of uncertainty.
How to get involved in the Kindness Poster Project?
We are encouraging businesses to display these posters in windows for the six week campaign, helping inspire kindness and reminding us to find the silver linings where we can.
Businesses and residents will be asked to reflect on how they have experienced kindness and what silver linings they have found throughout this pandemic. This opens the conversation to what kind of shared spaces do we want to return to.
