NewCold’s $147m expansion at Truganina headquarters

Global logistics giant NewCold is investing $147 million to expand its Asia Pacific headquarters in Truganina and bolster Victoria’s food storage capacity, with critical support provided by the Victorian Government.

Minister for Industry Support and Recovery Martin Pakula announced Friday that NewCold Australia would more than double the size of its state-of-the-art cold storage facility in Truganina, boosting storage capacity at the site to 225,000 pallets and creating up to 50 new jobs.

An additional 200 jobs will be created during the construction phase.

Stage one of the upgrade is underway and will expand NewCold’s multi-temperature and freezer warehouse with advanced features to store chilled and frozen goods.

Already boasting one of the world’s largest automated high-bay warehouses, the western suburbs facility will use the latest energy-efficient storage, cooling and distribution technology to automatically move and store products and ensure they are kept in optimal conditions.

The expanded facility, scheduled to be operational in 2022, will provide innovative storage solutions to NewCold’s global food supply chain customers including Simplot, which supplies products to Australia’s leading supermarkets.

NewCold, headquartered in the Netherlands and employing 1,500 staff across three continents, is a global leader in cold storage logistics, specialising in temperature-controlled warehousing and distribution.

With a strong reputation in Europe and the United Kingdom, NewCold’s expansion in Melbourne’s West will help grow the company’s footprint in the Asia Pacific region.

Minister for Industry Support and Recovery Martin Pakula said the project would enhance Victoria’s position as a market of choice for investment in the food and fibre, transport, distribution and logistics industries.

“Victoria is continuing to attract investment from major global companies like NewCold, generating jobs and opportunities across the state,” Mr Pakula said

“Food logistics is a highly innovative sector and operations like the expanded facility being built at Truganina are right at the head of technological advancements.”
