Member Spotlight: Events720/The Wooden Toy Co

Events 720 are a Melton-based exhibition company offering turn-key exhibition stands. They are market leaders in the creation of exhibition stands, with an end to end service from the idea through to the build, finally taking care of the logistics and install for their clients.

As the COVID-19 restrictions started coming into force, Events 720 were forced to go into hibernation. The exhibition and business events industry was one of the first industries to be shut down and are likely to be one of the last industries to restart once restrictions are eased.

Faced with the COVID-19 disruption, a business in hibernation and an unknown timeline for what lay ahead, Events 720 owners, Leon and Chloe Mortimer, were given a unique opportunity to increase their focus on their children’s play while they were at home.  Open-ended toys and play have been a feature of the Mortimer household, however supply issues, long wait times and costs meant that it was difficult to increase the number of quality wooden toys for their children. And so, The Wooden Toy Co was born to address this gap in supply and demand.

Having significant timber manufacturing experience, skills and equipment being underutilised provided the perfect opportunity to seek to address these issues while contributing to the rebuild of the local and national Australian economy by first keeping, and then creating local manufacturing jobs.

The Wooden Toy Co will continue to have the same great customer service and high quality products that you've come to expect from Events 720. And while exhibitions will continue to be a focus for Events 720, the Wooden Toy Co runs with a lot of synchronicity to the work at Events 720.

They have the manufacturing capabilities to run both businesses simultaneously, while also focusing on busy demand periods for both businesses. Initially starting with a retail focus, The Wooden Toy Co is heading into the wholesale market as well, with retailers jumping on board to sell the high quality products.

This ability to take an existing business and pivot due to the pressures of COVID-19 and industry shut down is a great example of the innovation and responsiveness of the local business community.

The Venture Melton Business Network is proud to have Leon, Chloe and the Events 720 team as part of the group.
