$1.35M boost coming for Melton Town Centre
Melton’s town centre will undergo a revitalisation with a redesign of civic spaces, a program of events and a campaign to engage with local businesses, supported by an additional $1.35 million boost from the State Government’s Suburban Revitalisation program.
Member for Melton Steve McGhie this week today announced details of eight projects that will revitalise the heart of Melton’s town centre.
Projects to be delivered by the City of Melton, in partnership the Melton Revitalisation Board, include:
an Outdoor Dining Precinct
a Shopfront Improvement Program and a Kids Zone playground in Civic Heart
active transport and capital upgrades to increase pedestrian traffic and cyclists
a Buy Local Campaign
Melton Town Centre Revitalisation Plan
MTC Event and Activation Calendar
an Identity Framework and Action Plan to develop sub precincts within the town centre.
These projects follow a previous $500,000 Suburban Revitalisation investment in Melton, which included $200,000 for the expansion of the historically significant Melton Courthouse Café, $95,000 for a pop-up retail space to showcase emerging businesses and $85,000 for local businesses to upgrade their shopfronts.
The projects are overseen by the Melton Revitalisation Board chaired by Mr McGhie, and include representatives from the Melton City Council, local community and local business.
This brings the total investment in the Suburban Revitalisation program to almost $24.8 million over the past 12 months, partnering with local governments across 115 projects to deliver $73.8 million of co-investment to Melbourne’s suburbs.
The Suburban Revitalisation program works with regional and local stakeholders to help plan and deliver infrastructure, community development and place-making initiatives that focus on driving social and economic outcomes in key activity centres identified across Melbourne.
Mr McGhie said the government was committed to encouraging suburban revitalisation as a way of strengthening Melbourne’s liveability and driving economic opportunity and jobs growth closer to where people live.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of the Melton Revitalisation Board, which will continue to support our local projects that are improving community spaces and addressing our local priorities,” he said.
Melton Town Centre Traders are invited to attend an information session on Tuesday 5 October 2021. Attendees will hear from Steve McGhie, Cr Kathy Majdlik, Mayor City of Melton, while also learning about the projects and opportunities to get involved.
