Goodman and Metcash celebrate project completion

Works have been progressing at a rapid pace since Goodman broke ground on Australia’s largest single-storey distribution warehouse at Goodman’s Riding Boundary Road Hub in Truganina.

The state-of-the-art warehouse features separate areas for the different types of food and goods that will be stored, including freezer rooms, refrigeration areas, confectionary area, hazardous materials, alongside a charging room for the EV forklifts, workshops, truck wash and more.

The new mega distribution centre will house a wider range of products and deliver greater efficiencies in serving the Metcash food and liquor networks, with close to 4,000 stores and premises in Victoria

In line with Goodman’s sustainable approach to property development, the Metcash facility includes 2.4MW of solar, 35 EV charging bays and 200,000 litres of rainwater storage. Materials chosen for the design and construction of the building will also see upfront embodied carbon emissions reduced by at least 10% compared to buildings of similar size.

Metcash Group CEO, Doug Jones said he believed independent family-owned businesses are the backbone of Australia and that ‘independents are worth fighting for’.

“Our network already includes some of the best stores in the world, and this investment represents our long-term commitment to continue supporting them and their local communities here in Victoria,” he said.

“Our purpose at Metcash is to champion successful independents, and this distribution centre helps to further strengthen their competitiveness so they can be the best store in their town.”

The practical completion sees works complete on the building and fitout, with Metcash commencing a transfer from their previous site in Laverton over the coming months.

Once fully operational the site will be home to a 700 strong workforce.

Externally, landscaping is underway, with a pocket park and basketball court developed on site, that will add high levels of amenity along with a café.

With a population of 3.7 million people within a one hour drivetime , Truganina is an attractive location for Metcash and other customers seeking strong connectivity to consumers and a skilled available workforce.
