OZ Healing Body Care

Armed with a brace of massage therapy qualifications in China and Australia, Peiling Liu (or Amanda as she is known in Australia) took a lease at Watervale Shopping Centre at the end of 2017 with dreams of operating her own massage business.

Amanda worked hard to establish her business OZ Healing Body Care and had expanded to a second site, shortly before she was forced to close her doors as COVID-19 restrictions were enforced.

With her revenue stream halted and only eligible for a few state and federal government stimulus funding programs, Amanda ensured her staff were looked after with JobKeeper and focused on preserving her cash flow.

“I had to make staff my priority because my business needs people to trade, otherwise – no business!”

Amanda sought out her suppliers to stretch out her cash reserves for as long as possible. She contacted her lender, landlord, insurance provider, even her EFTPOS provider, to negotiate payment pauses, deferrals and wherever possible, fee waivers, until she could trade again.

To her surprise, most were understanding and willing to renegotiate to accommodate her situation.

Unable to work in her premises, Amanda then contacted the Venture Melton Business Network to work on her business.

Amanda, used her VMBN membership to get free business mentoring, having several one-on-one mentoring sessions with English and Mandarin speaking mentors to develop a plan to access additional markets. She also improved her business knowledge and skills by attending the free VMBN business webinars, and now hopes to expand her business connections by booking a free spot at the next on-line network event.

“I thank the network for helping me. The mentors showed ways to service customers outside the store. I now have a relationship with a local aged care home and have applied to be an NDIS provider”.

While Amanda waits for her NDIS accreditation to come through and permission to resume treatments in aged care facilities, she is relieved to be operating again.
